Syllabus for “Chinese Gongbi Portrait Painting”

1.Teaching objectives of the course

Students will master the basic expression methods of Chinese Gongbi Portrait, gain the ability to observe form and enhance their sense of aesthetic. Improving their overall understanding of Chinese Gongbi Portrait Painting and cultivating an interest in Chinese Gongbi Portrait Painting. This course aims to promote Chinese painting and train qualified professional painting talents and professional art education talents.

2.Course nature and tasks

Gongbi Portrait Painting is one of the oldest genres of painting in the world. It embodies the essence of traditional Chinese culture and retains an irreplaceable and unique artistic characteristic that stands alone from other art forms. It is rigorous in shape and neat and meticulous in colouring. This course aims to cultivate students’ form observing ability so that students can master the basic techniques of line drawing and colouring in Gongbi style. Students will be taught how to use the unique language of ” Gongbi” to create Chinese portrait paintings.

3.Application Requirements

Chinese Gongbi Portrait Painting is a compulsory course in fine arts. Prior to this, fundamental courses such as sketching, colour, and figurative line drawings should be completed.
