Class Form 1 / Form 3 to Form 7 (Some “through-train” secondary schools provide class Primary 1 to Form 7)

British secondary schools generally provide form one to form seven education. The curriculum is similar to the traditional school system in Hong Kong. Form 1 to Form 3 are the junior years, Form 4 and 5 are for the British Council Examination (GCSE) course. Form 6 and 7 are for A-level or IB curriculums. After graduating from Form 7 students will enter university, using preparatory grades and extracurricular activity performance as the basis for their admission assessment.
In terms of examinations, students can choose subjects according to their preferences. In the UK, students can study subjects from arts, science, and business at the same time. Before GCSE and A-level, all British secondary schools will provide guidance on subject selection to help students choose subjects that are most suitable for their ability and interest.
British boarding schools generally refer to private schools that provide boarding services, including preparatory schools, secondary schools and international training centres specially set up for international students. These schools generally have a long history and are well-known for their strict discipline and outstanding results. According to statistics from the Council of Boarding Schools (ISC), as many as 13,000 students go to boarding schools in the UK each year, of which Hong Kong students account for about 13%.
All British schools start in September and have a total of three semesters each year. Depending on the student’s level and time of application, some boarding schools also accept transfer students in January and April.
